Before I can talk about the model I must talk about the inspiration.

Itsukushima is an island off the coast of Hiroshima, in the Seto Inland Sea, Japan.

On the island of Itsukushima is a Shinto shrine of the same name, now whilst I could go on and on about the history and trivia about the island or Shinto shrines, what you need to know is that every Shinto shrine has associated Torii gates.

The beauty of Itsukushima's Torii gate is that it is located off the coast of Itsukushima, standing in the sea, this gate is not embedded in the sand, it is simply rest in place from its own weight.

When the tide is out you can actually walk up to the gate, but if you do, please be respectful.

About the Model

It's about time I actually talk about the Model itself. I had to re-design the gate in the beginning because originally I had made the smaller roofs circular and the parallel pillars beams ending incorrectly.

However at the end of the model I was so happy with it I needed to give is some background assets and some wave animations.

The Lantern

The need for this mesh came from my time in Japan, and when I saw it I went "I have to make that!" 

My goal was to make this lamp with as few polygons as possible whilst still maintaining its level of detail.

Waning Will

Background

Will is a skeleton, that I derived from an idea I am currently pursuing, wanting to express my frustrations with my life, progressing my career and the demoralising state that the job market is in currently. Being forced to work a meaningless Job, will works in hell with the dreams of heaven.

About the Model

Will was modelled with the intent of a simple, low polygon design, the kind of model you would find in age of the original FF7 or on the Nintendo DS, hence the paddle hands.

Will was also the first character that I made with express intent to animate thoroughly, it started with the obligatory Idle and Walk animation cycles, and then some simple expressions.

I am especially happy with the Shocked and Bowing animations
